Cinnamon Toast & Honey Butter – get your skin glowing!

 

A healthy snack for beautiful skin!

This was just a random snack I was eating and I snapped an instagram picture.  No biggie….at least that’s what I thought for about 1 minute, lol!   Suddenly I was flooded with requests.  So I posted it on our naturesknockout.com and our viewers loved it.  So I guess you could say this one is back by popular demand, lol.

Just because

it’s different,

doesn’t mean

it’s impossible!

But beyond that, it’s worth loving for lots of reasons.  Here are a few:

  • super quick to make
  • delicious healthy snack (no gluten, dairy, sugar or soy)
  • the aroma is amazing
  • the ingredients are all beautifying, inside and out

And if that’s not enough, here is a little more insight as to why we love these ingredients…

CINNAMON & GINGER

Cinnamon is a given on cinnamon toast, but it’s a good thing, because it’s loaded with anti-inflammatory antioxidants which make your skin glow beautifully.  Many studies have led us to believe that inflammation is the very root of aging and disease.  So eating cinnamon and ginger help retard inflammation and allow our bodies to thrive.

Ginger is even higher on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory scale and that’s the main reason we add it to this snack.  It has a stronger taste, so you may try a little at a time, but if you’re really wanting better results, we think this a a great place to indulge. 🙂  Yeah, we’re a little shallow like that, but we believe you’ll feel better too.  So whatever level of motivation you have, we say enjoy! 🙂

HONEY

Some people worry about the high sugar content because of diabetes or hypoglycemia, so if that’s a problem, we say just omit the honey and throw on a little date sugar instead.  In other cases, some people have inflammatory reactions to honey…but here are our thoughts on that.  Tiffany can eat “raw” honey, and does great, but if she has regular store bought honey, she is in pain right away with her rhuematoid arthritis.  We’re researched it through and through and the only difference we can find is that raw honey is NOT heat processed, while regular honey is.  So we believe that heat alone is enough to chemically restructure honey, making it a foreign invader to some people.  Because of that, we only eat raw honey and eliminate potential problems and embrace the immune boosting benefits of honey.  Btw, we won’t link to our favorite honey because we recommend buying it locally for the best immune system boost.

COCONUT OIL

We’re big lovers of coconut oil and could devour the fragrant smell that explodes from it.  There is some controversy surrounding it because it is a saturated fat, but we’ve seen enough good research on it and some great doctors who endorse it that we feel confident that it has many great health promoting properties.  Here is a video we did: A Billion Uses for Coconut Oil

Cinnamon Tea.

We love this Cinnamon tea, it’s super simple to make and tastes super yummy! In other words…Cinnamon Tea, BEAUTY inside & out! Not only is it soothing, but Cinnamon tea is anti-inflammatory and anti-aging.  Whenever anyone in the family has aches and pains, I’ll offer them cinnamon tea and they love how it relaxes them, but also seems to make them feel better. Here are some reasons I think Cinnamon tea works: Cinnamon itself has been shown to have positive effects on reducing inflammation, cancer, and even diabetes.  It also has been found to be a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.  

Heads up: Cinnamon may be a blood thinner, so ask a doctor before use, especially if you take any sort of blood thinners.

AND HOW SAFE IS STEVIA??? Stevia is an herb that has been thought to be helpful in fighting high blood pressure and improving insulin, which may be beneficial for diabetics.  It is also full of anti-oxidants, which we love! We look for stevia that isn’t branded with a trademark of any kind…we could write a book about why, but for the best, safest results, go for raw organic stevia. Stevia has recently been given a bad rap, with controversy over it being an endocrine disruptor, which can disrupt the hormonal balance and could possibly be a health concern. We feel that the stevia plant itself is incredible, rich in antioxidants, and it’s leaves even contain an ingredient that can help in reversing cancer, rather than causing it. WE BELIEVE that the problem with stevia is if it has been altered in anyway. We grow our own, right inside our kitchens, and highly recommend it. If you choose to buy it, we’d say to make sure it’s pure organic green stevia powder or pure stevia extract. We will add some affiliate links to some that we believe to be safe and rich in nutrients.

  • 1 cup water – warm, not hot
  • freshly ground organic cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon raw honey – 1 heaping teaspoon or 1/4 teaspoon green raw stevia powder to taste
Instructions: Place ingredients together in a cup and stir, it’s that simple!!

This Raw Porridge, (Carameled Apples & Cinnamon) is a much loved favorite breakfast treat of ours, but was inspired by one of our wonderful facebook beauties. We asked a random question the other day and as always, you all came through. Thank you again, for inspiring us on this journey that we all are sharing together!

This is our version of Raw Porridge, a totally raw, quick, and delicious way to give your morning that powerstart that it needs.

Instead of listing the shopping list, I shot a picture 🙂 The milk is almond milk that I made myself. You can watch the video for that below.

INGREDIENTS:

Ingredients –

3 tablespoons organic Chia seeds
almond or coconut milk – 1 cup (more if desired)
1 organic apple – chopped
raw honey – to taste
2 tablespoons raw walnuts
organic cinnamon – to taste
unsweetened coconut chips – optional

Instructions

Place the chia seeds in a bowl, with the milk, and let set for 10-15 minutes. While it sits, chop up the apple, and gather the rest of the ingredients. Stir together and serve. Get ready for a mouth watering delicious treat that you will come to crave!  🙂

Yes, A Chocolate Lover’s Green Smoothie! I will admit, I was a sweet-tooth-aholic and am happy to say that I am in recovery, but love that I can still get a good fix. Haha–say what!? 🙂

Yes and YAY–all of the flavor, plus more nutrients than ever…what’s not to like?  Can you see why going off sugar, dairy, soy & gluten isn’t as grueling as I was afraid it would be?  Ok, there were days in the beginning, that I’m happy to not repeat, lol!

So now, life is good–no, grande!  This is a quick pick-me-up that really is loaded with flavor.  Ohmygosh.. in fact, I think I’m heading to the kitchen right now!

Chocolate Lover’s Green Smoothie Shopping List…

  • frozen bananas (peel them before freezing or life will be very frustrating!)
  • almond, rice, or coconut milk (depending upon how thick you like it

Chocolate Lover’s Green Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

2 frozen bananas
1 cup almond, rice, or coconut milk
1-2 cups organic spinach, collards, or kale
2 tablespoons raw honey, or 12 drops liquid stevia
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
sea salt – dash
1 small handful almonds or walnuts
cacao nibs – to sprinkle on top for an extra rich nutrient boost
cinnamon – to taste – optional, this just adds more anti-inflammatory qualities

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients (except chopped nuts and cacao nibs) together in a blender until blended well.  Drop nuts into mix and pulse once or twice.

Pour into a glass.  Sprinkle cacao nibs on the top for even more yummy nutrients.

Makes 2 servings, depending upon whether you share or not 🙂

Raw Honey – 3 tips every honey lover should know!

We’ve written about the amazing qualities of honey before, but this afternoon, we were making sunbutter & honey sandwiches (gluten free bread of course 🙂  and realized we should share a few tips to make honey easier to use and to help you get the most nutrients from it!

TIP # 1

Raw honey is more nutritious than regular honey.  Yep, and that’s huge!

You’ve been trying to eat honey for a better nutritional option than sugar, but did you know what you may be eating may be more harmful than good?

Yeah, if that seems shocking, be sure to read on!

We didn’t know there was a difference until Tiffany realized her rhuematoid arthritis would flare up when she ate regular honey.  But raw honey didn’t bother her at all-which made no sense (or so we thought).

Sooo, we did a lot of research.  You may be wondering…what happens when a couple of blondes put their heads together? 🙂  Actually, sometimes some very good things happen! What we learned raw honey is not heat processed, which means it contains more nutrients.

But because of Tiff’s reaction to regular honey, we feel that heating honey must change the molecular structure, causing it to become toxic to some people…another thing about regular processed honey is that some manufacturers add artificial colors and flavors to the honey, which add additional toxins to the contents.

So that, plus the lack of nutrients with processed honey = why buy processed honey at all????????

Soo, how you can tell if honey is raw?

It should say “Raw” somewhere on the label.  It will also become cloudy and thick.

TIP #2

Don’t heat up raw honey!

The first thing we used to think was to throw it in the microwave, but NO!  That kills the healthy properties of raw honey and can make it toxic for some people.

We also try to only buy raw honey in glass containers.  The main reason is because often the plastics used (especially the honey bears) contain BisphenolA, which can be highly toxic, especially when heated.  You never know how long your product has been sitting in hot warehouses or trucks, so it’a always best to avoid plastics as much as possible.

TIP #3

So how do you scoop out hardened raw honey, without heating it?

This is one of our fave tips!!  Are you ready???

We figured out a really great tip.  We get a glass of hot water and place a knife or spoon in it long enough to heat it up and then dig into the honey with it–it just melts what you touch enough to scoop it right out!   Pretty cool, huh?!  Raw Honey – 3 tips every honey lover should know!

Raw Hot Fudge Recipe, without heat and gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, and soy free!

Ready for the most amazing chocolate fudge syrup? Yes, it’s gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, and soy free, and sooooo yummy! It’s our own version that we cooked up, almost by accident and we’ve been celebrating ever since, lol.

You know how things sometimes happen for a reason?  Well, this is one of those “things”…alleluia!  My sister was staying with us on a visit and she started asking what she should use to improve her skin.  That’s like asking a pack of wolves if they’d like to eat you, haha, so of course, I marched her down to my kitchen and started whipping up some nutrients in a dish.  I loaded it with antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids and moisture.  I slapped it on my face and had her do the same.  But before I knew it, she was licking her bowl clean…. ummm, excuse me?! 🙂

It’s a little hard to take someone seriously with chocolate slopped all over her face, but…as I thought about it, I realized she was onto something, hmm.  I knew it should taste pretty yummy with the ingredients it contained, so I licked my own lips and as far around my lips as my tongue could reach…and yes, you guessed it, before long I had licked my own bowl clean.

It really tasted great and I could see that it had some real potential.  I thought about how to thicken it and mixed up a few versions before, viola! This recipe came together. And it’s delicious on any of our baked goodies or on good old fashioned cut up apples, bananas, strawberries….ummm get the idea?

Raw Hot Fudge Recipe

  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 2 Tablespoons organic coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons organic tapioca flour (starch) or organic almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon organic cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon probiotic powder (optional)
  • few drops of extra virgin olive oil (use to thin it and for added Omega 3’s)

Mix all of the ingredients together in a mini blender for the most incredible fudge topping.  If you want it thicker, let it set in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. It can be used over many of the desserts in this book or it makes a delicious dip for bananas, apples or fresh pineapple.  

And btw, don’t forget that if there’s anything left over, your face will be forever grateful if you decide to share.  And if you do, just apply it directly to the skin and allow it to set 10 – 15 minutes.  Use a moist cloth to remove.

Enjoy our Grain-free Pecan Pancakes Recipe.  Gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, soy-free. Fast and easy to make and delicious!

And what better way, than to start a new day right, than by eating wonderful, delicious things that will also make our bodies healthier, and yes, more beautiful!

Mmmmm, you’re in for a treat!  They are super simple to whip together and take about the same amount of time as any pancake mix that isn’t going to make you feel better, or look better, for that matter either.

Grain-free Pecan Pancakes

Ingredients:

1/3 cup almond flour
1 banana
1/8 cup almond butter or sunbutter
3 fresh eggs, hormone free, omega 3
1/2 teaspoon pure stevia powder (if you can have unrefined sugars, you could substitute with 2 tablespoons coconut sugar)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
coconut oil – use for frying in skillet and instead of butter to serve
raw honey – instead of syrup
raw pecans – shelled

Instructions:

Heat skillet on medium.

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse a few times.  Don’t over mix.  Place a dab of coconut oil onto hot skillet and then pour pancakes onto the hot surface.  Cook until bubbles form, and flip once.  Remove from skillet and serve with a little coconut oil and pecans.  Drizzle raw honey over the top.
