DIY Headband, Designer Inspired

Yes! You heard it right, we are about to teach you to make this super cute DIY Headband, Designer Inspired!

I saw this headband in a magazine, a VERY HIGH end name brand was selling it for well over $200. Yeah, crazy, but YAY for easy DIY’s 🙂

DIY Headband, Designer Inspired – enjoy this video to see how simple and cheap it is to make! Yay! 🙂

It’s so fun to make and in a weird kinda way, I even like the compliments I get from my DIY headband, even more than if I’d paid $200 for it!

I don’t know, it’s silly, but there’s just something very validating about making it yourself. And if you make it for someone you love, be sure to think of them and how much you love them as you spend your time making it. We really believe that the energy felt will be passed on with the gift. Some of my very favorite gifts growing up were homemade gifts, mainly from my grandma. I’d eagerly await her sweet gifts more than anything else I thought I might be getting, but I think I could feel the love she infused into those gifts as she made them. Just saying 🙂

DIY Shorts + Thrift store Tips

Thrift store tips & DIY shorts

($70 BKE jeans cut into shorts = $5 thrifted)

Ok, I admit it. We LOVE to get a deal! And thrifting comes second nature to us. It’s one thing to buy something expensive because it will last the threads of time, but very few things need to last forever anymore really. At least that’s the way it is in our book, lol.

Some of you may agree, and some disagree, but actually in our line of work, we do a whole lot of repurposing of old fashions. So we are 100% in favor of it. Plus, we kinda love that feeling of accomplishment we get after we stand back and realize that we just pulled off the impossible. Yeah, that’s perhaps the biggest payoff of all – at least for us anyway.

What about you?? What are your thoughts/adventures on repurposing something and giving it a whole new life? We’d love to know.  K, enough said, let’s get on with ways we can inspire you to do something like your own DIY Shorts or something else that is very cool, and our list of shopping and thrift store tips. Our hope is to inspire you!

Thrift store shopping tips & DIY shorts.  Must know tips to abide by when thrifting.

1. Make a list of items you are hoping to find. (I usually have pictures on my phone as well) If you know what you’re looking for, it makes the shopping experience quicker & easier. Of course, the chances of you finding the exact item you’re wanting is extremely rare.. but if you have the basics in mind, it makes the hunt easier.. use those creative juices and think of fun ways to make outfits look the same, even if the items themselves are completely different.

2. Contact your local thrift store & find out which days they re-stock their shelves with new items. If you can make it to the thrift store the morning after they stock their shelves, chances of finding valuables, is always higher.

3. Take advantage of your resources. Theres nothing better than finding something & knowing you’ve hit the jackpot. BUT there are other times when you are unsure if you really need it, or how well it works etc.. If you have a cell phone & carrier plan that allows you to use the internet, dont be afraid to look up the value and/or reviews of a specific item.(Note: all data plans are different, be sure and check with your carrier to see if can use extra services)

4. Have a budget.  The thought of a second hand shop tends to give people the mentality of, “Its inexpensive, grab this, grab that..” but beware! Those $2, $3, $4 items add up if your snagging everything in site. Which ultimately can defeat the purpose of thrifting &  being wallet friendly.

5. Don’t be afraid to try things on. In fact I highly recommend it. You are trying things on that have been “previously loved” If you don’t take an item off the hanger, you may not notice the faint yellow stain on that beautiful white blouse. Also with the different brands & styles being sold, its important to understand the fit, what if the neck has been stretched a little too far? Take a few extra minutes to try things on.

6. No fear. Easier said than done right? Wrong! Don’t be afraid to take that granny shirt hanging on the rack, pair it with a cute belt, small leather jacket & make something of it! Grab those not-so-in style jeans and turn them into adorable cut offs. No fear! Be creative!

Thrifted outfit: Shirt $4, Cut off shorts $5, Belt $1 (necklace old from target)

Have FUN!!!!!  And let us know about your great finds–we love hearing, and dang, we just plain love you in general!!!!

The power of kindness

It’s no surprise that blueberries are one of our favorite fruits—they just happen to be one of the healthiest too. Spring Fever – Free Printable!

Spring is in the air!! We love it and had to do something fun to celebrate all of this beautiful sunshine!

Spring Fever - Free PrintableSo when we hooked up with the adorable, Aly Brooks, who created this cute printable, we couldn’t resist!  This one is cute, and for us, it says it all…Spring Fever! Absolutely perfect. 🙂

PIN IT! – Spring Fever – Free Printable

Download your Free Spring Fever Printable

This is super simple to do! I decided to do some iron on transfers with this printable, but it would make an adorable wall hanging or cleaning or gardening bucket too. Actually, look at the cute wall hanging Aly made!

In order to do an iron-on-transfer, you’ll need to reverse the printable, and make it the size that works for your project.

Spring Fever - Free Printable

Since my top was stretchy, I stretched it over the ironing board so the transfer would move a little with the fabric. It worked quickly and really well and the color was true to the actual download.

Spring Fever - Free Printable

PIN IT! – Spring Fever – Free Printable

For the kitchen towel, I couldn’t get the transfer to release from the backing, so I had to heat the iron hotter. The fabric was cotton, so it could tolerate more heat. But I think I got a little too aggressive with the heat, thus, it turned into a nice warm golden version of the download. I kind of liked the warm version too, but in case you don’t, I thought I’d explain how to do it (or not 🙂

And whether you’re a total fashionista or think it’s beyond your reach, we’ve got some great affiliate reads for you….

Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Natural Scrubs

PIN ME!

Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Do you regularly exfoliate your skin?  That simple change may make a world of difference to smooth out the skin.  You can use a loofa or a scrub, or even both.

SCRUBS & MORE

A scrub can help a lot, just be careful of any Parfum/fragrance they may include. Although the make it smell great, synthetic fragrances can cause allergic reactions, like razor bumps and break outs, but studies indicate that they can be responsible for even worse problems, including neurotoxicity, endocrine disruptors that can cause reproductive organ cancers, and also contain pthalates (BPA), which is highly toxic.  We believe fragrance to be one of the more dangerous ingredients and highlyrecommend avoiding it always.

We’ve tried a few natural scrubs that we’ve really liked, here are our latest loves:

Simple Gift Farms – they use essential oils and all natural and organic ingredients and are amazing! They worked great and left the skin feeling wonderful.

Simple Sugars – this company just sent some yummy products to try. They are nice, and nutrient rich (just don’t eat the sugar! 🙂 But we really liked them too.

DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies, celulite scrub

L’or de la Mer Organic Anti Cellulite Body Blaster Scrub with Seaweed – Move over razor bumps and lets talk cellulite removal for a second.  This is a more agressive scrub, but a wonderful option for fighting cellulite and detoxifying the skin. It’s more pricey, but if those are the things you’re wanting, this is close to magic. It worked great!

Or, you could make  a simple DIY Natural scrub in minutes:

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil

Mix together, then spread on area and rub gently prior to showering.  Wash off before shaving.  By exfoliating the area, you can help eliminate excess dead skin that could be causing a reaction.  The salt in the scrub also aids an an anti-bacterial to keep irritation down as well.

As always, let us know how you love it!

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes – our top 3 faves!

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes – our top 3 faves, including a perfect Valentine surprise!!!  🙂 Super quick and easy too! Sometimes you just can’t find the perfect lip balm for you lips, and probably the biggest complaint is that they usually dry your lips out or actually make them seem more chapped. What we’ve discovered is that often times, that either un-natural chemicals or possibly too many ingredients have been added to the mix.  And guess what?  We can’t fool our bodies…they will ultimately tell us what they won’t put up with. So, what’s a girl to do (or guy, for that matter)??? We think there’s a super simple solution….just make it yourself!  We know what you’re probably thinking, because we thought the same thing ourselves once upon a time–“eeek!  That’s crazy!?”  right?  Not so much. It’s actually super simple to do, and super cheap (YAY!).  Just make it yourself! Have we lost our minds???  Well, we won’t go there, lol.  But actually when you see for yourself how simple they are to make, you’ll wonder what took you so long. 🙂 So depending upon your lips and potential irritants, we think the safest place to start is with a very basic recipe.  Once you try this, you may be so in love that you won’t want to do a thing, or you may get a little tingly thrill that gets you excited to venture into doing a little more playing.  Either way, we think it’s a good idea to start with the basic, and then branch out from there, if you like.

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes

BASIC LIP BALM RECIPE

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon shredded beeswax (pack firmly)
  • 1/4 teaspoon honey

Some people microwave these, but we’re not so certain about microwaves…so we like using a double boiler.  Mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  It will turn a creamy yellow.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  Enjoy!

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes

LIP QUENCH MOISTURE BALM

  •  2 teaspoons cocoa butter
  • 2  teaspoons grated Beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerine
  • 1 teaspoon tsp olive oil

Using a double boiler, mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  It will turn a creamy yellow.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  Enjoy! TIP:  If you want to add color to either of the above recipes, use mineral powder eye or cheek colors for a tinge of color.  Stir a small amount of the pigment in right after removing the melted mixture from the pan, until you get the desired color.   Stir well and pour into individual containers. And for a little Valentine’s Treat, we thought you might like something Chocolatey!  So how about… CHOCOLATE KISSES LIP BALM

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon honey

Using a double boiler, mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  This one will even taste yummy!  You could add a few nuts and get a little exfoliation action too–just kidding!  🙂 Enjoy, and we hope your Valentine’s Day is even sweeter!

Q&A

HOW LONG WILL THESE KEEP?  It depends upon several different factors, including where they are stored, room temperature they are used in and humidity.  But remember, they don’t have any preservatives (YAY) so we recommend watching them closely and once they start to smell, look, or taste bad, it’s time to replace them. WHAT IF IT TURNS OUT TOO HARD?  Add a little more oil to the recipe WHAT IF IT TURNS OUT TOO SOFT OR RUNNY?  Add a little more wax to the formula. WAIT A MINUTE–CAN I ADD ESSENTIAL OILS?  It depends.  We do love some of the therapeutic effects of some essential oils, but we also are big believers that they should just be used for therapeutic effects, so if you don’t need them, we say, back off. We’ve got a lot more to say about this HERE. Would you like to see a video demonstration of any or all of these recipes????  Let us know and we’ll whip one or two together for you 🙂 xox Laurie & Tiffany

Raw Hot Fudge – without heat!

Raw Hot Fudge Recipe, without heat and gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, and soy free!PIN IT

Raw Hot Fudge (without the heat 🙂

Raw Hot Fudge Recipe, without heat and gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, and soy free!

Ready for the most amazing chocolate fudge syrup? Yes, it’s gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, and soy free, and sooooo yummy! It’s our own version that we cooked up, almost by accident and we’ve been celebrating ever since, lol.

You know how things sometimes happen for a reason?  Well, this is one of those “things”…alleluia!  My sister was staying with us on a visit and she started asking what she should use to improve her skin.  That’s like asking a pack of wolves if they’d like to eat you, haha, so of course, I marched her down to my kitchen and started whipping up some nutrients in a dish.  I loaded it with antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids and moisture.  I slapped it on my face and had her do the same.  But before I knew it, she was licking her bowl clean…. ummm, excuse me?! 🙂

It’s a little hard to take someone seriously with chocolate slopped all over her face, but…as I thought about it, I realized she was onto something, hmm.  I knew it should taste pretty yummy with the ingredients it contained, so I licked my own lips and as far around my lips as my tongue could reach…and yes, you guessed it, before long I had licked my own bowl clean.

Gratitude opens the door

to all of the wisdom,

the power, and the happiness

you were meant to enjoy!

It really tasted great and I could see that it had some real potential.  I thought about how to thicken it and mixed up a few versions before, viola! This recipe came together. And it’s delicious on any of our baked goodies or on good old fashioned cut up apples, bananas, strawberries….ummm get the idea?

AND we’ve got some super exciting news!! If you are re-doing your pantry and needing quality organic ingredients for GREAT PRICES, you’re going to love our latest ORGANIC MARKET that we’ve partnered up with to give you amazing quality for a steal! Better than anywhere else we’ve seen, amazon included, and everything they sell is FRESH!

Raw Hot Fudge Recipe

  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 2 Tablespoons organic coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons organic tapioca flour (starch) or organic almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon organic cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon probiotic powder (optional)
  • few drops of extra virgin olive oil (use to thin it and for added Omega 3’s)

Mix all of the ingredients together in a mini blender for the most incredible fudge topping.  If you want it thicker, let it set in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. It can be used over many of the desserts in this book or it makes a delicious dip for bananas, apples or fresh pineapple.

And btw, don’t forget that if there’s anything left over, your face will be forever grateful if you decide to share.  And if you do, just apply it directly to the skin and allow it to set 10 – 15 minutes.  Use a moist cloth to remove.

Another good for you recipe, inside & out!  Raw Hot Fudge, without heat and gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, and soy free!
