Real Homemade Broth

how to make Real Homemade Broth, super easy and so delicious, but amazingly good for you too. I also love how it makes the whole house smell so yummy! 

Here is a video that shares some of the amazing benefits I’m already seeing after I’ve started adding Real homemade broth to my diet every day!

If you take a second, just look up the ingredients in store bought broth. If it doesn’t make you sick, it probably will when you eat it. I say that kind of joking, but sadly kind of not.  I have to admit that I was shocked. Even when we were eating a completely Raw Vegan Diet, we were using pre-made vegetable broth, made by someone who didn’t have our best interest in mind.

If you’re vegan, this post may not be for you, although, it is possible to make some pretty good vegetable broth–maybe we’ll just do that for you, would you like that?…and we also have plenty of other recipes that also contain no sugar, no gluten, no dairy, no soy, and especially no chemicals that you will love as well.

Cook extra and keep some in the fridge or freezer for easy prep throughout the week!!

Here’s how easy the broth is to make…

Homemade Broth (from organic chickens of course)

Nutrient rich chicken Stock. 

  • 1 bones of an organic chicken (gizzards/giblets neck and feet if possible) 
  • 1 Organic onion (if possible) peeled and quartered
  • 3 organic carrots cut into 1” pieces
  • 3 Organic Celery sticks cut into 1” pieces
  • 3TBS RAW ORGANIC apple cider vinegar (WITH THE MOTHER) 
  • 1 Basil leaf
  • 2 tbsp himalayan sea salt (or more if desired) 
  • Thyme (dried or live) about 4 sprigs if live or 2tsp if dried
  • 2 tsp USDA organic celery salt
  • organic peppercorns as desired.
  • 3.5 quarts of filtered COLD water (filtered if possible) 

Pre-heat oven to 400

Roast chicken bones for 1 hour in oven and gizzards, giblets 30-45 minutes or until crisp.

When done, in a large pot or large crock pot (at least 4 qt) combine all ingredients including bones. 

Turn on high till it comes to a rolling boil (30-45 minutes) then turn temperature to low and slow cook minimum of 8 hours. I like to let this simmer for at least 72 hours (3 days) but follow the directions recommended for your stove or crockpot. (Just be smart, we want to keep you around as long as possible! 🙂 The idea is that the longer you let the water ‘Broth’ simmer, the more nutrients seep into your water and the more “rich” your broth will be! 

Taste broth and if it needs more flavor add some more vinegar and seasonings. The vinegar is a crucial element to your broth, as it helps pull the nutrients out of the bones! Plus adds a great flavor and is great for you!

In some ways I did great and in others I didn’t quite match up, but overall I’m having a really valuable experience and seeing life in a whole new way, which is the real success. I love this venture and I love that you’re there with me.

HOW MUCH DID I LOSE?

Remember, remember, this is NOT about weight loss–that’s just the bonus. Our real focus is about finding our worth, our real value, and by building up the spiritual and the emotional as we take care of our bodies and listen to them.

I wasn’t even planning to get on a scale, since I don’t want the rush (good or bad) that it would give and I really don’t want this to be about vanity. But since I’m reporting to you, and I said that I would, here goes….. this week I lost 4 pounds. So cool, cool, awesome, but I really want to say I feel good–because my body is feeling better. Those 4 pounds are helping me to see the power in taking care of myself right, which is really cool.

It was pretty funny because we had no idea where we were, other than right downtown. 

But day by day, we got little hints as to what an interesting and historical area we were staying at, and were a little shocked to realize that the JFK Memorial was just about 1 block away, and we could actually see it right out our hotel window.

Paleo Pizza in 3 minutes

I think you’re going to love this–it’s Paleo pizza on the go! Super fast 3 minute pizza. Easy and delicious!

Today was my first real day off in a few weeks. Tiffany and I have been working on a film called “War Pigs” so today was a day to celebrate. So when I headed off to the post office to drop off some packages today, I had one of those crazy unhealthy temptations come tugging at my appetite strings, if that’s such a thing.

And wouldn’t you know, it was pizza. I wanted to just pull into one of those ready made pizza joints and grab a piece or two of pizza. But even though the temptation was there, I really didn’t want to do that deep inside. But I think it was the quick and easy way out that got to me even more than the pizza itself.

I thought about what I had in my fridge and thought just maybe I could create something just as quick and equally tasty without all of the chemicals and “ick” at all.

And I’m happy to say that I did it! I threw together the simplest pizza in minutes, and it was really yummy.

Paleo Pizza Snack

Here’s how to make a quick PALEO PIZZA

INGREDIENTS

1 slice grain free bread (our favorite is our Italian Herb bread which isn’t quite 3 minutes to cook, but when you have a few more minutes is super easy to make!)

1 tablespoon Nomato Salsa or Best Salsa Ever

Sprinkle of shredded Almond or Rice Milk Cheese

Several thin slices of free range nitrate-free pepperoni

Italian herbs

Brewers Yeast – gives a cheesy flavor and a great natural source of vitamin B12

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place a slice of grain free bread of any kind (we linked to our favorite ever) in the toaster and pop up half way through.
  2. Next spread on the salsa, sprinkle on some cheese, pepperoni and herbs.
  3. Place on the top of the toaster and turn it back on. Allow to crisp up the bottom and warm until ready. I took mine off before the toaster popped again as it was ready sooner.

So this literally takes about 3 minutes from start to finish and you can feel good knowing that you haven’t filled your body with yuck. Yep, awesome.  🙂

Love to Run?!

Ok, true confessions here. I really don’t love to run.

Whew, I said it. But I really don’t. Tiffany is a gifted runner and she and her older brother have always had this crazy love to run, which is actually super awesome and I love to cheer them along every step of the way. But as for me, no, I don’t love to run.

I know it’s a little weird, that for someone SO into health, you would think that I would love to run and would be running in every 5k and marathon around but, nope. I just don’t like the way that it makes your heart beat so hard and makes your mouth  so dry-ugh, it’s just not my thing. Give me zumba or yoga and that’s another story.

So why did I jump at the chance to share in this 5K?

Because a 5K isn’t actually too bad. I actually did one in my life–it was last year for a friend who was dying from a brain tumor. The course was really nice. I actually got lost along the way somehow (how do you get lost on a 5k?, I really don’t know, but I guess if there’s a will there’s a way, lol!)

And I also didn’t even run once on that 5K. I just walked, which is something I actually do enjoy.

SO, the thing that touched my heart about  this Loco Coco 5k is that it will help to feed Christmas breakfast to 500 families in need. THAT is awesome and makes me so warm and happy inside.

We actually were one of those families in need many years ago and it touched my life in a way that I never could have dreamed. Long after that food is eaten, the love behind it will keep living on.

I think we have those kinds of experiences in our lives to change us. And I will always cherish the feelings we had when we opened our door to huge baskets and bags of food and toys. There really aren’t enough tears of gratitude that can express the way that it touched each one of our lives forever.

So I hope that you’ll join us, whether you love to run or not, dry mouth or wet, come by and join in on the fun! We hope to see you there–unless we get lost of course, lol!
