DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye

DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye – Here’s my shot at a fun little project. It’s simple, fun and does take a little more patience than the traditional dyes, BUT on the other hand, I’d take that in a heartbeat in order to know what’s absorbing into these eggs is actually good and very safe!

DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye

There are 2 ways to make these DIY natural Easter egg dyes come to life.

  1. MUGS: I made these ones by soaking hard boiled eggs in my dyes for hours, even overnight. I liked the speckled look it gave them. For this method, I mixed my dyes in mugs by placing 2 teaspoons of ground color (see below to see what you can use to make the colors) into the mug, add 1 tablespoon white vinegar, and enough HOT water to cover the egg. NOTES….with this method, make sure to hard boil the eggs beforehand.) , also Dehydrated “colors” that are finely ground will work best.
  • PANS: If you want to make the color more even or just want to color them faster, you can actually place your “colors” into small pans. You can use any of the “colors” fresh or in dehydrated powders (the dry powders work best usually). Add enough water to cover the eggs, and turn heat up to high. Add 1/4 cup of color, and 1/4 cup white vinegar, and boil away for about 15 minutes.DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye,make your own egg dye 2The options for dying Easter eggs naturally are huge. My rule of thumb is that any richly colored fruit, veggie, spice, garden flower or vegetation will work if it is rich enough in color to leave color on your knife when you cut through it.

DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye,easter egg DIY dyeHere are a few ideas of items that will make great color for your DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye colors…

RED – beets, beet juice, organic beet root powder, tarte cherry juice concentrate, cranberries, cherries, raspberries, ground annatto seed, saffron powder, ground sumac

BLUE – blueberries

YELLOW – turmeric, saffron

ORANGE – carrots, chineese star anice, Ground Korintje (Makara) Cinnamon, Ground Mace

GREEN – Spinach Leaves, Spirulina, Grape Leaves

PURPLE – Purple Grapes, Purple Pansies

ANOTHER SECRET TO MAKING A VARIETY OF COLORS WITH DIY EASTER EGG DYES…

Here is a basic color wheel. You can use any produce or garden vegetation with these colors or if you want more colors, you can mix them to get the color you want.

DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye, Natural Easter Egg Dyes

Just remember that red, yellow, and blue are the primary colors. So to make secondary colors, just look at the color chart and you can see that the secondary colors are made by mixing the primary colors on each side of it together.

SO for

1. green–add yellow and blue

2. purple–add blue and red

3. orange–add red and yellow

A COUPLE MORE TIPS FOR DIY EASTER EGG DYES

  • You can also use a wax crayon or wax pencil so kids can draw faces or names or cute designs on the eggs before they’re cooked
  • The longer you leave the eggs in the dye mixture, the darker they will be. Can you tell which one I kept in the solution overnight? lol! 🙂

We’d LOVE to see your eggs! If you want, post them to our facebook page, we’ve set it up so you can, and that would be a lot of fun!

DIY Wassail – Easy, Delicious & Anti-Inflammatory Beauty Drink

DIY Wassail Recipe, no refined sugar, dairy, gluten, grain, soy, chemicals or guilt AND your skin will love you for it too!

Wassail is so yummy! It feels and smells like Christmas and just makes me want to snuggle up in a big fleece blanket by the sparkles and crackles of a glowing fireplace.

But I was a little curious about the origin and did some reading. So for those of you that are a little snoopy like me, I’ll share what I learned. Wassail comes from an old English tradition that came about as a way to cheer in a good apple crop in the coming year.

If you want to know more, I found my info through Wikipedia, but in a nutshell that’s how it started. But sharing a warm cup of Wassail has spread to become a really tasty Christmas tradition worldwide. But the only problem with traditional wassail is that it’s not so healthy. It starts out that way, but you cook down the apples, depleting them of nutrients and then add lots of sugar and chemicals if it’s pre-packaged.

.

The best gift

is the gift of yourself.

Taking care of

yourself is a blessing

for those you love.

.

So what if you could have that warm steamy cup of wassail, but if it could be good for you too? Like anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging and absolutely delicious? LOL, who am I kidding, that’s why you came to this site in the first place, right?DIY Wassail, Warm, Delicious, Anti-inflammatory

Ok, enough said, let’s get to business and get you enjoying the most healthy, delicious wassail in town! A little note to think about – spices are highly concentrated. In fact, if you’ve ever made any of your own, you know how much you have to grow in order to make 1 teaspoon worth of dried any kind of powder. So with that in mind, we highly suggest switching over to organic spices only. Instead of linking each spice below, here is an affiliate link to OUR FAVORITE ORGANIC SPICE & HERB SHOPPE that we love to get our own spices from. Because we believe in their products, we are happy to recommend them to you.

DIY Wassail Recipe – Warm, Delicious, Anti-inflammatory

  • 1 3/4 fresh unfiltered organic apple juice
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger or 1/4″ piece of fresh ginger root
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender. If you have a Hot Soup Setting, press it, or if not, blend for 90 seconds at high speed until warm.

Serve right away.

Nomato Salsa

Believe it or not, there are NO tomatoes in this recipe, thus: Nomato Salsa!

But why not??? Tomatoes are amazing and contain high levals of lycopene which is a superstar in fighting cancers of all kinds. So if you can eat tomatoes, we say DO! And head over to our Best Salsa Ever Recipe for an incredible recipe.

But if you want a little different salsa twist, or need to eat tomato-free, this recipe is wonderful!

Tiffany is one of those who can’t because of her Rheumatoid Arthritis (R.A.), which becomes inflamed from eating nightshades. And yes, unfortunately as wonderful as these beautiful red fruits are, they fall under the nightshade family and should be avoided for people fighting severe inflammation.

So for Tiffany and all those of you who need to get that salsa fix, but also need to go the nomato route, this one’s for you.

“In the end,

it’s not the years

in your life

that count.

It’s the life

in your years.”

Abraham Lincoln

Actually, it really tastes wonderful and even for tomato eaters, it’s pretty darn great. We like it plain with organic tortilla chips, or to stir some in with a fresh avocado. My husband discovered that one (so I must give him credit or I just may hear about it, lol) and yes, that is delicious too.

This Nomato Salsa also a raw recipe, so it will naturally be full of nutrients and just takes minutes to throw together.

Getting Kids to Eat Vegetables

Getting Kids to Eat Vegetables

Question:

I need tips on getting kids to eat their vegetables. I have a 13 month old little guy and I am having THE hardest time getting him to eat fruits and veggies! He isnt the biggest fan of meat, but will eat some of it, but when it comes to fruits and veggies, its a nightmare even getting him to taste it! I dont know why all of a sudden he doesn’t like them, because he ate all organic baby foods until he started solids and LOVED fruits and veggies. I dont know if its a texture thing, or taste or what. We have tried cooking them different ways, offering them raw, hiding them in things, it doesnt work! I can see from your videos Tiffany that your little guy has no problem chowing down on his fruits and veggies so I was wondering if you guys had any tips, tricks etc that I could maybe try? Thanks guys, xo!  Natasha Alain

Answer:

Hi Natasha,

Great question and if you’ve watched Tiffany’s vlogs, you’ve seen that we don’t have all of the answers, but have found a few great tricks that are working really well with getting kids to eat vegetables.  Her little boy Jameson tried so hard to like a juice concoction she made, but couldn’t quite stomach it.  So sometimes vegetables straight on, might be a little hard for a little one to swallow.

So here are some tips we’ve found for getting kids to eat vegetables successfully:

1.  Use powdered dry blends of dehydrated fruits and vegetables by adding them to cool or lukewarm soups, sauces, salsas, or raw desserts. Blendfresh is something we have found and can’t say enough about. It’s an amazing source for real nutrients, completely non-gmo and 100% organic with all kinds of plant based blends, proteins, fiber, pre & probiotics. With dehydrated foods, always make sure to amp up the water intake as well (for kids of all ages, even the grown up ones 🙂

2.  Hide veggies in a smoothie.  If the green color of a smoothie is enough to bring on the fear, add fresh berries to the mix to add some color.  Another way to boost color and nutrients is to add a little sliver of an uncooked beet.  A little goes a long way, but it will turn it a fun bright red.

3.  Try to find local produce whenever possible.  If your fruits and vegetables are local, chances are they’ve had a chance to ripen on the vine, which not only provides more nutrients, it also gives richer, more delicious flavor.  I was recently working in Austria and my assistant (who previously hated strawberries) couldn’t get enough of the fresh strawberries we got from a local farm.  They were seriously just like candy.  It’s crazy how much different the flavor is when produce is fresh and naturally ripened, verses when it’s picked way in advance and shipped hundreds of miles. o_o

4.  Make popsicles from smoothies.  Even if your child hates smoothies, there’s something magical about a popsicle.  So, capitalize on that!  You could literally fill ice cube trays and place little serving sticks in them or use popsicle molds. HERE ARE SOME that we love! They are always a hit at our houses.

5.  Make fruit (& veggie) leather.  After making a smoothie, coat a dehydrator teflex tray with a light coat of coconut oil.  Then pour your smoothie onto the tray and dehydrate until dry.  It makes a delicious fruit & veggie treat for all!

6.  Cook vegetables minimally.  I have a little secret.  Even Tiffany and I weren’t crazy at all about fruits and vegetables when we first started down the natural and organic road.  I remember thinking a salad was way too much work and thinking fruit was fine, but not necessary.  Yikes!  But the first trick we figured out was what a difference it made to cook produce a LOT less than we’d always done.  We also don’t use any canned produce–it just tastes like watered down mush, compared to the crispy fresh alternative.  So we do a lot of raw produce or if we cook it, we do it very minimally. We literally drop it in a pan to steam it for only 1-2 minutes…just enough to warm and lightly soften.  But we’ve fallen in love with the rich taste and light crunch of vegetables.

7.  Make food fun.   You can do so many fun things to make healthy snacks more cute!  We’ve found some wonderful ideas on Pinterest and are happy to share.  We don’t want to violate anyone’s copyrights, so please join us HERE for lots of great ideas!

SO, there are a few ideas to get you started, hopefully those will help.  I’m sure some of our viewers will have some other fun ideas, so we invite you to share!  Comment below, we love hearing your great ideas!
