This is a picture of me with my mom. And here is a funny little story about them… The other night, we were visiting with my parents.

pay someone for homework Out of the blue, my dad said, “Mom has been going commando”

enter …uhhh–what in the world?!! Yeah, it seemed like a randomly weird thing for him to share and something we really didn’t want to hear or visualize, eek!
Sooo, we asked

click “Why she was going commando?”

Hahaha!! My dad is the cutest–I love him so much! This is a picture of my brother, Vaughn, my dad, and me while they were extras on a film that Tiffany and I were working on. Anyway, I’m blessed to have such wonderful parents to tease, and who always know how to brighten any day!

I love you two, lol!!!

On Set with People Magazine

On Set & a Life Changing Experience I have several neat stories to share with you, but today I’ll focus on a recent shoot with People Magazine.  A few weeks ago I promised you I’d post my experience from it but I had to wait until the story was published.  We also did tapings for CNN’s “Anderson Cooper Show” and “E” News so I also had to wait until all of those aired as well.  They’ve all aired, the story was published…so now 🙂 it’s our turn–YAY! .

novel books I actually think this is a wonderful story of gratitude, and I’m excited to share it at the end of a US holiday which focuses on being thankful.  I personally feel that gratitude is one of the greatest attributes we can acquire in this life and it’s something I’m working hard at.  So enough of all that, let’s get started….

follow url So this story was of a reunion of a boy, Brandon Wright (below in wheelchair) with several strangers who risked their own lives to save him from a burning auto/motorcycle crash.

source url A Life Changing People Magazine Set Experience

canadian rx viagra You may remember hearing of the story, if not, I’ll include a news clip of the actual rescue, it’s quite compelling…

follow site The story we shot was even more compelling though.  I had a chance to visit with each of the heroes as I did their makeup and hair throughout the shoots.

Most of them are students from all different walks of life and I really don’t think any one of them saw themselves as a hero.  In fact, they were embarrassed about all of the publicity and made comments like, “Anyone would do what we did.”  But I don’t know, would they really?  I would hope I would and I would want to, but seriously, what would I do in the same situation?

Another comment I heard was, “I really don’t want attention for what I’ve done, I’d rather go along quietly than to be made into something great.”

The saddest comment I heard was from one of them who received some hate emails for the rescue.  That was disheartening to think anyone would be hurting so badly to stoop that low.

I spoke with Brandon and his parents as well.  They were still quite moved and grateful for the second chance Brandon had at life because these total strangers were more concerned about his life for a few moments than they were about their own lives.

Then, the moment that brought everyone to tears was when Brandon met his rescuers for the first time, face to face.  They each spoke of their feelings, motivations, gratitude, and even for a few moments spoke nothing at all.  The silence said so much more than words could ever begin to.

I was deeply moved as I could only imagine the range of emotions each of them was feeling…the immense gratitude, concern, compassion.  Prior to that incident, everyone was going their own way, doing their own thing, without concern for the others.  But now, we all shared the overwhelming sentiment of humanity at it’s peak.  It was truly a beautiful experience.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to see good in a world that sometimes seems too busy to care.   There truly is goodness in the world and that makes me happy 🙂  Here’s a quote I really like, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” ~ John F. Kennedy

A touching Set Moment: Music Video with Hilary Weeks

by lvukich

source url Dear Diary!!!

I’ve always been a journal keeper but for some reason I got away from it a few years ago, which makes me sad because I’ve had so many incredible experiences.  I feel almost ungrateful, so I’ve decided to commit to it again, and in a crazy way, I think I’ll be more committed if I write it here so you can hold me accountable, lol.  So anyway,  my goal is to get back on track with a post at least once a week, usually on a Sunday, since that seems to be the most stable day of my week.

So the posts I’ll be posting will be my actual journal.  I don’t know where it will take us, but you’re welcome to read along as I share my experiences, thoughts, feelings and whatever pours out of my heart and onto the keyboard.

A touching Set Moment: Music Video with Hilary WeeksI stole this from Hilary’s blog, so I’ll link to her below 🙂

Hilary’s Blog

A little over a week ago, I went to do Hilary Weeks makeup again for a big concert to release her new CD.  We had fun, as always, and cute Dani, her hairstylist was there too.  I love that we’ve worked together a total of 3 times (well, 3.5 if you count the one that got rained out, lol!) but we were already full of “remember whens,”  haha.  To me, that’s the mark of true bonding!  🙂 hahaha

But the getting ready was only half of the treat for me that night, as the concert was amazing.  Hilary is an incredible artist, and that was obvious, but she’s so cute and real and says the cutest things, and this night was no exception.  She did an outstanding job and looked absolutely stunning!  I took pictures with my phone, but they turned out like pink blobs, so I don’t have any good ones to share, sorry 🙁

There was another highlight to the night, they showed Hilary’s music video which we had done (that I posted about) so here is the link to the video:

I just did Hilary’s makeup in this video, but didn’t get the chance to meet the other 2 featured women.  Hilary told me about them and I was so moved by their stories and really wish I could’ve met them.  Maybe someday, I really believe that would be a real honor.  I love that they are women whose lives have been molded by embracing the tragedies that could have so easily destroyed them…

Oh and this is SO COOL!  I got a note from Hilary this week saying the CD, Every Step, made the Christian Billboard Charts!!!  And it is number 6 on the Christian Charts and Number 1 on the Indie Music charts….she was writing to say thank you and you know what, after working beside Hilary even just a few times, I can say that if anyone deserves that kind of success, it’s her.  She poured her heart & soul into that project and beyond that, she’s every bit the gem she appears to be and then some!  I’m so excited for her!  I love it when great things happen to great people, yay!

I’d better scoot and go enjoy some time with my hubby.  I worked all morning on NBC’s Music and the Spoken Word, then tomorrow will come early and I’ll be on another set somewhere–still waiting for call time & info.  But I’ll keep ya posted.  In the mean time, go spend some time with someone you love, time flies way too fast!

Love you!

Movie Life: Breaking down a WWII Script

Movie Life

Yeah, I think the upside down photo pretty much says it all! LOL!
I didn’t shoot it upside down, but maybe it just read my mind =)

Anyway, yes I know, I do live in a crazy world.
Last week I was backstage with David Archuletta and working with Tom Brokaw on a 9/11 Broadcast for NBC. I also had a big bridal party at the Waldorf Astoria to do makeup and hair on. It was nice wearing skirts and being a girl and doing pretty glam makeup and up-dos (well, not on Tom Brokaw, he was a nice guy, but i don’t think he would’ve appreciated that, haha!)

But now I’m breaking down a script on a WWII movie that we start shooting next week. It will be down and dirty and I’ll be in the foxholes piling on the dirt, sweat and blood.

As for the picture….
It is just some of the research I have laid out. The director wants the lead lady wearing a ponytail, but that’s a look that we hardly see before the 1950’s, so I’m pouring over everything I can find to locate some sort of 1940’s ponytails. Once i find some options I like, I’ll present those to the director.

At that point, the look will be his call and that can be a scary thought…

Sometimes directors will over rule all of the options I give, and we end up having to do something that isn’t the period look I want or even like at all. That’s when I die professionally and decide whether I really want to do the show or not. I really don’t like having to do work that I know isn’t right, but sometimes we’re forced. Because of that, i’ve learned not to be too critical of other makeup and hair professionals that don’t follow the period looks perfectly. I know it may not have been their call–but if it was their call, bad for them, they have no excuse. j/k love and kisses to all of you =)

Kay, enough said, i need to get back to work. I’ve got a 90 page script to read and break down and then i have to call the director this afternoon to go over my ideas and questions. I’ve also got to get out some product orders in if i want them to arrive in time.

I know i’ll be working some long days and i’ll be working 7 days a week for the next few weeks, but i promise i’ll post again as soon as i can. tiff will be helping me some, but she’s pretty pregnant now, so this isn’t the best show for her right now =( sniff sniff. i’ll miss her, i know.

i’ll keep ya posted :o)

PLEASE COMMENT, ask ?’s, anything–we LOVE hearing from you!

health essay writing Just working on set and hit with a realization…

The main focus of our site is to inspire positive replacements for what’s going on your body, in your body, and in your mind. So if this can have a little of the impact it had on me today, it’s well worth posting.

Ok, the pictures below are with me getting thrown into a shot–something that happens all the time, not because I’m an amazing actress (I know that must come as a shock jk lol) but really just because it’s a great way to get cheap labor for no extra cost– lol!  But this post isn’t about me or an acting career at all, I think it’s something much more….

On set for Shriners Hospitals, a tender dayI had a realization today that I want to share.  It didn’t have anything to do with work, but had everything to do with life.

Several of us were talking on set about a mutual friend who seemed to have it all.  He even said one day, “My life is perfect, if I could just get a big promotion…”  Then, not long after that, he did get promoted to VP over his division.  And then, it looked as though he had finally stepped into that perfect life.

On set for Shriners Hospitals, a tender dayBut sadly, perfect didn’t last.  It wasn’t long before his little girl was diagnosed with a devastating tumor and that is what he and his family are fighting with today.

As we shared our feelings of sadness for them, I realized how telling his story really was, not just about him, but about all of us.  We all want this to happen or that to happen and THEN everything will be perfect, won’t it?  Well maybe not, because that’s not what life is really all about.

Why do we do that?  Why do we cheat ourselves out of the life we’re currently living, waiting for perfect, which really doesn’t exist?  But beyond that, the really crazy thing is that  those “imperfect” things are the very things which provide us the greatest growth of all.  Yet someday…..

Those thoughts simmered in my soul today, for which I’m so grateful.  I drove home tonight with a heart full of gratitude for all of the imperfect things in my life.  I think I am truly happy with imperfection.  Now, if I can just wake up tomorrow and hold on to what I learned today!

In closing, I’ll share a beautiful thought…

“The most important thing in life

is to enjoy your life

and to be happy

That’s all that matters.”

– Audrey Hepburn

Life as a Makeup Artist – a moment of panic!

American Express shoot, hair & makeup by Laurie

I love the level of obedience on set, lol!  🙂

Life as a Makeup Artist – a moment of panic!

Today I worked on a shoot with a couple of research Dr.’s that study the brain. It was so cool to uh, well, pick their brains! =) They talked about the things that cause the brain to age. They also talked about ways to keep it young–which included lots of nutrients in the diet & exercise. They said it was interesting that as better nutrition was added to case study’s diets, the skin cleared up and people lost weight as well. Not surprising, but very fun to hear it from the these research scientists. It’s crazy to me how as we become so advanced, the things we really need most are the most very basic of all!

Life as a Makeup Artist

So for today, just a couple of crazy moments

I set my GPS to the address I was given. Then when it announced I had arrived, I pulled into the parking lot of the only building around. They were under construction, so I parked a ways away and lugged my case and bags and directors chair all the way, down 2 full flights of stairs. When I got to the lobby, I called the production manager, who said he’d be right out. Well, he wasn’t, and I started to wonder. I asked the receptionist and learned I was at the wrong place. Ugh. So needless to say, I packed back up and out and loaded back up and continued on til I found the right place. I was grateful for a good morning workout! Luckily the talent and gaffer had the same problem, so all was well, yay.

I almost had a panic moment as yesterday I sent my kit off to Boston for a shoot next week, so I grabbed what I needed for today’s shoot and ran off, not realizing I forgot to grab hair products! Gulp. Luckily I had a few small products in my set bag, so WHEW, it all worked out.

Never a dull moment, that’s for sure!

Comment!  We love it when you do!

Behind the scenes on “Leverage” TV Series

Life as a makeup artist: Behind the scenes on “Leverage” TV Series

It’s a crazy life, but I moved to Portland for 6 weeks to do half a season, running the hair department on Leverage..  Here are some little glimpses of my life on Leverage.

Behind the scenes

Sorry about the blurriness, this was just with my phone and a shaky hand, lol.

Anyway, this is a picture of me (Laurie) with my two assistants. The one on the left is Jennifer and the one on the right is Danyale. I love my girls so much, they’re great!

photo 2

That’s me, peeking a look on the monitor in a closed video village 🙂

This TV show moves at a super fast pace, we film an episode every 7 days, which is really intense. As soon as we start a new episode, we receive the next full script to start breaking down in our spare time (haha!)

behind the scenes, leverage tv show I love the crew a LOT, they’ve got lots of wonderful people, and for the most part, the cast is a lot of fun too. I noticed there has been a lot of turnover on the show, especially in my dept., which is a little odd, but I’m learning why. My hope is that I can turn some of those things around and create a smooth running ship. On most of the trailers I run, our actors love to come in and just hang out in the MU trailer in their down time, not sure that will happen here, but I’ll do my best to make it a place actors at least want to be when they need to be there.

behind the scenes, on leverage

Right now we have a 5 day break while the cast is headed for NYC for the up-fronts. So we opted to take tomorrow off and work next Sat. instead. Whew, hoping to have LOTS of fun in the mean time =)

I flew home yesterday morning and went right up to Tiff’s set to surprise her. She was so excited, and I got to see all of her amazing work. She definitely made me proud!! Then her cute hubby and little boy came up, I was so happy to see them. After that we went to see my middle son & his cute family, which made it a wonderful day!

It’s a beautiful sunny day today, and that’s how I feel inside too. You can travel the world and meet all kinds of people, but at the end of the day it’s the love of family and friends that fill the heart the most!

Comment please, MWAH!
