Best Oils for Skin – by Skin Type

Best Oils for Skin - by Skin Type

Do you know the Best Oils for Skin – by Skin Type!?  We can almost bet that it is not what you probably think it is.

Contrary to popular belief, oil is actually good for your skin.

In fact, here’s one that may surprise you even more, but if you had to chose between putting oil or water on your skin, which one would be the best?

Ahemmm, I’m guessing you have one brow raised way up high right about now? And that’s because you want to say water, but because of the intro I made you’re questioning whether I’m going to actually do the forbiddable, and say…oil?! Well, if that’s what you’re thinking, you are right! Oil is always a much better choice for your skin than water. In fact, I don’t ever put water on my face on purpose and haven’t for years, because….water is so drying.

stay calm

moisturize, moisturize

Oil on the other hand, is what we naturally produce and the protection that the skin knows best. So why in the world would we go out of our way to strip that precious oil off? And now you are probably wondering if I’ve lost my mind, especially if you have oily skin. But think about it, when you strip your skin of it’s oils, it recognizes that it has become depleted, and because your body is so incredibly amazing, it then mass produces more oil. Before long, your face is about as active as a faucet.

I could go on all day on this subject, but I love you much more than that. So I will spare you of all of the chemical details and move on to which oils your skin will love the most, depending upon your skin type. If you have combination skin, you could use separate oils, according to the various types. Watch out, your skin is about to absolutely love and adore you, as you discover the trick to beautiful skin that glows and glows and glows!

Natural Remedies for eczema, Emu Review

Yes, we are talking first hand on this one, literally! We’ve both struggled with eczema, but are grateful we’ve found some answers and we can totally keep it under control. SO a viewers question is what inspired this post–we’ve found some awesome Natural Remedies for eczema that have worked like a dream for us & we hope they will make a big difference for you too!

question from our viewer, liz…

I’ve been curious about Emu Oil and would love to know more, plus know which kind you recommend.  I really trust your opinions, thankyou so much! 🙂 Liz

simple steps to happiness

our answer…

We’ve found some awesome Natural Remedies for eczema!!

Thanks for your question Liz…I’m not sure if you’re wanting it for helping reduce wrinkles, for extremely dry, chapped skin, or for fighting pain and inflammation, soooo I may give you more than you bargained for, lol!  Anyway, here goes :_)

Emu Oil has been referred to as the “Wonder from Down Under” because of the highly therapeutic properties of Emu meat and oil. The Australian Aboriginies have used it medicinally for centuries because of its special properties.

Pure Emu oil naturally contains linolenic Acid (Omega 3), (Omega 6), and Oleic Acid (Omega 9) along with other Essential Fatty Acids. These EFA’s have shown to be highly beneficial in aiding healing. Studies have shown that deep penetrating Emu Oil has anti-aging, moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

yes, you can

love the skin

you’re in!

It works beautifully to hydrate and lubricate the skin, and absorbs well, delivering  the Essential Fatty Acids through the epidermal layers of the skin and down to the basal layer where it stimulates new cell regeneration. The fatty acid estersin Emu Oil increase the local blood flow, accelerating the healing process.

I personally love it for eczema and have found it to be more therapeutic and effective than some prescribed medications and steroids.  (I have to add the disclaimer though that if you have persistant eczema, it’s wise to refer to a physician).  It is also excellent for extremely dry and chapped skin and lips.

Natural Acne Remedies

It is also rich in anti-oxidants which help to slow down the aging process and in some cases actually reverses it. It’s anti-bacterial, hypo-allergenic and a natural non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores :).

Emu Oil also has shown to be anti-inflammatory, which helps reduce and prevent wrinkles, pain (arthritis, burns and other injuries).  It also helps plump the skin and can reduce dark circles and also minimize dark spots.

Beauty lovers, skin care professionals, professional sports teams, chiropractors, massage and physical therapists and other medical professionals, report excellent results from Emu Oil.

When rating this particular product, we should point out that not all Emu oils are alike, so it’s important to know that Thunder Ridge Emu Oil is a pure an edible grade. Because of that, we give it 3 stars, 1 for being safe, 2 for excellent performance and 3 for being pure and naturally loaded with nutrients.

Here are some that we believe to be very pure:

Emu Gold Certified Pure Emu Oil

Please COMMENT below and let us know your thoughts, questions, and how this works for you. We believe it will make a world of difference, and that you will really love it! You guys are awesome, have a wonderful day!

Natural Eczema Remedies

My son has the worst eczema and it breaks my heart.  The doctor just threw a bunch of steroid creams at me, but I really want to try some sort of more natural relief…do you know of any good natural eczema remedies? ~ Sarah

natural eczema remedies

Hi Sarah, That’s heart wrenching–it’s so hard to see your little ones hurting 🙁  We strive to be careful to not undermine any doctor’s advice because we aren’t doctors, chemists or anything like that.  But what we are, is moms, who will do anything to fight for our babies.  That is actually the reason we do Nature’s Knockout, because of Tiffany’s auto-immune disease and our urge to get the word out. So now that we’ve gotten all of the disclaimer talk out, we recommend studying it out for yourself, and in the mean time, here are some natural eczemaremedies that we’ve found that seem to work wonderfully…

With your son’s eczema, it’s important to avoid all products containing sodium laureth or sodium lauryl sulphate (for more info on those, head to our I Spy Videos( under “Is it safe” in Beauty) It’s best to make sure he only uses natural or organic soaps, shampoos, laundry detergents…but even if an item says it’s natural, check the ingredients to make sure it’s completely non-chemical. Also, coconut oil can be really helpful too.

Water is the worst irritant and literally fuels the eczema, so make sure to protect the skin from water. You can apply coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil to the skin a few minutes before immersing in water, then wash with a gentle, safe soap, and follow up with a little oil after towel drying the skin.

The skin needs lubrication, not hydration. So that means, using healthy oils is good, using water or products with water is not so good (boo)

That is–at least, until the skin is healthier. Most lotions tend to aggravate eczema because of the high water content in them. And unfortunately, that even includes many of the safe and natural ones. Heavy lubricating creams and oils are the best for protecting and nourishing the skin to get it back to a more healthy state.

That said, there are always going to be exceptions, which in this case, we are thrilled about. We’ve found one natural eczema oil treatment that worked super well, and yes, we’re happy to share!

One more thing–get away from fragrance and any product that contains it. Even if it says “natural fragrance or fragrance blends” the skin can’t be fooled. :-/ So what about essential oils? We feel they can be therapeutic in many cases, but because the skin we’re discussing is hyper-sensitive, we say proceed with extreme caution. In most cases it’s better to avoid essential oils while the skin is inflamed. Read our concerns about Essential Oils on this site.

Oops, I just thought of another, so one last thing :).. covering the skin after lubricating it will help tremendously. If eczema or dermatitis is on the hands, apply a lubricant, put cotton gloves on, and keep them on for a few hours or overnight. The skin will usually respond well.

And I don’t want to get off on a negative note, but when it comes to steroid creams, use them sparingly if you have to, but be sure to read all of the side effects thoroughly, because they are real.

Some foods may cause a reaction in people who are eczema prone…some to watch for are red meats, sea food, eggs, dairy, GMO grains, breads with yeast, additives, preservatives, blueberries, tomatos, lemons, and lime. Psssst, I’ll share a secret–I have eczema too. I guess it’s not really a secret because I blab it all the time. Sorry, off task—anyway, I can have those items when my skin is doing well, but when it’s broken out, I try to avoid them until I can get it under control.

Also, many eczema sufferers have food allergies, so pinning down the culprits can be life changing. You can go to a doctor to get blood tests done or by eliminating items from your diet for up to 6 mos, then re-introducing them in mass amounts to see if reactions occur.

Something to add to the diet is more probiotics or acidophilus on a daily basis. You can get them through pure cultured yogurts, keifers, and lacto-fermented juices and veggies.  We use coconut milk to make ours and they are super simple and yummy to make, but for those who still want dairy, goats milk can be a better option than cow milk and typically doesn’t have all of the antibiotics and hormones in it.

FOR ADULTS ONLY: If the eczema has a thick and rough texture and no lesions, freshly ground sea salt can be added to the coconut oil to scrub the area (not close to the eyes though)…often eczema will respond well to that as it usually carries bacteria that the salt fights. Remove it with a damp cloth and reapply the coconut oil to relubricate. Please be sure skin is not broken or the salt could really hurt.

Another thing to consider is that if the acid mantle has been stripped, it can cause eczema breakouts. One way to restore the acid mantle is by applying a tiny amount of apple cider vinegar to the affected area.

And if you do all of the good things above, you might see some relief–stay on the path and even though it’s in remission, keep using safe products so you can keep it at bay. Hope that helps–I’m crossing my fingers for ya!

Please share your thoughts, hopes, dreams, any tips or recipes or whatever moves you–we love to hear from you!

To your health (and to your little one’s!!)

Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Natural Scrubs

Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Do you regularly exfoliate your skin?  That simple change may make a world of difference to smooth out the skin.  You can use a loofa or a scrub, or even both.

A scrub can help a lot, just be careful of any Parfum/fragrance they may include. Although the make it smell great, synthetic fragrances can cause allergic reactions, like razor bumps and break outs, but studies indicate that they can be responsible for even worse problems, including neurotoxicity, endocrine disruptors that can cause reproductive organ cancers, and also contain pthalates (BPA), which is highly toxic.  We believe fragrance to be one of the more dangerous ingredients and highlyrecommend avoiding it always.

We’ve tried a few natural scrubs that we’ve really liked, here are our latest loves:

Simple Gift Farms – they use essential oils and all natural and organic ingredients and are amazing! They worked great and left the skin feeling wonderful.

Simple Sugars – this company just sent some yummy products to try. They are nice, and nutrient rich (just don’t eat the sugar! 🙂 But we really liked them too.

DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies, celulite scrub

L’or de la Mer Organic Anti Cellulite Body Blaster Scrub with Seaweed – Move over razor bumps and lets talk cellulite removal for a second.  This is a more agressive scrub, but a wonderful option for fighting cellulite and detoxifying the skin. It’s more pricey, but if those are the things you’re wanting, this is close to magic. It worked great!

Or, you could make  a simple DIY Natural scrub in minutes:

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil

Mix together, then spread on area and rub gently prior to showering.  Wash off before shaving.  By exfoliating the area, you can help eliminate excess dead skin that could be causing a reaction.  The salt in the scrub also aids an an anti-bacterial to keep irritation down as well.

As always, let us know how you love it!
