Do you know the Best Oils for Skin – by Skin Type!?  We can almost bet that it is not what you probably think it is.

Contrary to popular belief, oil is actually good for your skin.

In fact, here’s one that may surprise you even more, but if you had to chose between putting oil or water on your skin, which one would be the best?

Ahemmm, I’m guessing you have one brow raised way up high right about now? And that’s because you want to say water, but because of the intro I made you’re questioning whether I’m going to actually do the forbiddable, and say…oil?! Well, if that’s what you’re thinking, you are right! Oil is always a much better choice for your skin than water. Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Natural Scrubs

PIN ME!

Natural Scrubs – who wants smoother skin?!

Do you regularly exfoliate your skin?  That simple change may make a world of difference to smooth out the skin.  You can use a loofa or a scrub, or even both.

SCRUBS & MORE

A scrub can help a lot, just be careful of any Parfum/fragrance they may include. Although the make it smell great, synthetic fragrances can cause allergic reactions, like razor bumps and break outs, but studies indicate that they can be responsible for even worse problems, including neurotoxicity, endocrine disruptors that can cause reproductive organ cancers, and also contain pthalates (BPA), which is highly toxic.  We believe fragrance to be one of the more dangerous ingredients and highlyrecommend avoiding it always.

We’ve tried a few natural scrubs that we’ve really liked, here are our latest loves:

Simple Gift Farms – they use essential oils and all natural and organic ingredients and are amazing! They worked great and left the skin feeling wonderful.

Simple Sugars – this company just sent some yummy products to try. They are nice, and nutrient rich (just don’t eat the sugar! 🙂 But we really liked them too.

DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies, celulite scrub

L’or de la Mer Organic Anti Cellulite Body Blaster Scrub with Seaweed – Move over razor bumps and lets talk cellulite removal for a second.  This is a more agressive scrub, but a wonderful option for fighting cellulite and detoxifying the skin. It’s more pricey, but if those are the things you’re wanting, this is close to magic. It worked great!

Or, you could make  a simple DIY Natural scrub in minutes:

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil

Mix together, then spread on area and rub gently prior to showering.  Wash off before shaving.  By exfoliating the area, you can help eliminate excess dead skin that could be causing a reaction.  The salt in the scrub also aids an an anti-bacterial to keep irritation down as well.

As always, let us know how you love it!

So can one of u ladies plz tell me a cure on how to make them go away. Plz respond, and thank u! 🙂 — Kristin

ANSWER

Great question Kristin, and you’re not alone.  We work with a lot of actors, muscians, etc who struggle with razor bumps too.  We happen to have some great DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies that we’re happy to share.

.

.

SENSITIVITIES

People with curly hair tend to be the hardest hit, but we’ve found that people some people just have very sensitive skin or an allergic reaction that’s aggravated by shaving, and will always have reactions.  If this sounds like you, we always have to say, it may take medical help to set your body straight.  For others, the breakouts could be minimized or even avoided altogether by taking some simple steps to keep them down.

DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies

THE RAZOR YOU USE

Have you thought about your razor?  Believe it or not, it may be as simple as swapping it out to a new one or new type of blade.  If they are jagged or old, they can irritate the skin.  So changing out disposable razors often can be a good idea.  Also, a razor that shaves too closely can cause irritation for many.  We’ve worked with a lot of actors who need to use trimmers to shave, in order not to irritate the skin. Btw, we’ll add some recipes below with some affiliate links to some of the ingredients we trust the most and use ourselves.

Another thing, one way to get a closer shave is to pull the skin tightly as you shave.  But if you’re prone to breakouts, pulling the skin tightly may be causing you problems.  Try shaving without pulling the skin while shaving and see if that makes a difference for you.

DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies

SMOOTH THE SURFACE

Do you regularly exfoliate the area prior to shaving?  That simple change may make a world of difference.  Sometimes built up skin can trap the hair in the follicles, and cause breakouts.  So it’s important to exfoliate well first to smooth out the skin.  You can use a loofa or a scrub, or even both. Watch for another post on scrubs we love and how you can make your own at home!

NEUTRALIZE SKIN

You also could make a treatment to neutralize the skin with baking soda.

Mix together well and apply to affected area.  Leave on for a few minutes if you can.

TREAT

Make a treatment spray in a mini spray bottle

Fill the bottle with equal parts:

After shaving, spray onto affected area and smooth into skin.

See Tiff’s video on the Uses of tea tree oil

Hopefully some of these suggestions will help.

Keep us posted on how you do, using these DIY Natural Razor Bumps Remedies, and feel free to share any of your own tips as well.

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes – our top 3 faves!

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes – our top 3 faves, including a perfect Valentine surprise!!!  🙂 Super quick and easy too! Sometimes you just can’t find the perfect lip balm for you lips, and probably the biggest complaint is that they usually dry your lips out or actually make them seem more chapped. What we’ve discovered is that often times, that either un-natural chemicals or possibly too many ingredients have been added to the mix.  And guess what?  We can’t fool our bodies…they will ultimately tell us what they won’t put up with. So, what’s a girl to do (or guy, for that matter)??? We think there’s a super simple solution….just make it yourself!  We know what you’re probably thinking, because we thought the same thing ourselves once upon a time–“eeek!  That’s crazy!?”  right?  Not so much. It’s actually super simple to do, and super cheap (YAY!).  Just make it yourself! Have we lost our minds???  Well, we won’t go there, lol.  But actually when you see for yourself how simple they are to make, you’ll wonder what took you so long. 🙂 So depending upon your lips and potential irritants, we think the safest place to start is with a very basic recipe.  Once you try this, you may be so in love that you won’t want to do a thing, or you may get a little tingly thrill that gets you excited to venture into doing a little more playing.  Either way, we think it’s a good idea to start with the basic, and then branch out from there, if you like.

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes

BASIC LIP BALM RECIPE

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon shredded beeswax (pack firmly)
  • 1/4 teaspoon honey

Some people microwave these, but we’re not so certain about microwaves…so we like using a double boiler.  Mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  It will turn a creamy yellow.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  Enjoy!

Easy DIY Homemade Lip Balm Recipes

LIP QUENCH MOISTURE BALM

  •  2 teaspoons cocoa butter
  • 2  teaspoons grated Beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerine
  • 1 teaspoon tsp olive oil

Using a double boiler, mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  It will turn a creamy yellow.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  Enjoy! TIP:  If you want to add color to either of the above recipes, use mineral powder eye or cheek colors for a tinge of color.  Stir a small amount of the pigment in right after removing the melted mixture from the pan, until you get the desired color.   Stir well and pour into individual containers. Easy Lip Balms you can make yourself! IMAGE

And for a little Valentine’s Treat, we thought you might like something Chocolatey!  So how about… CHOCOLATE KISSES LIP BALM

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon honey

Using a double boiler, mix the ingredients together in the top pan of the double boiler until melted, then remove and stir until it starts to cool.  As the mixture is thickening, add it to a container an let it stand about a half hour.    Wait patiently (if possible) and then viola!  This one will even taste yummy!  You could add a few nuts and get a little exfoliation action too–just kidding!  🙂 Enjoy, and we hope your Valentine’s Day is even sweeter!

Q&A

HOW LONG WILL THESE KEEP?  It depends upon several different factors, including where they are stored, room temperature they are used in and humidity.  But remember, they don’t have any preservatives (YAY) so we recommend watching them closely and once they start to smell, look, or taste bad, it’s time to replace them. WHAT IF IT TURNS OUT TOO HARD?  Add a little more oil to the recipe WHAT IF IT TURNS OUT TOO SOFT OR RUNNY?  Add a little more wax to the formula. WAIT A MINUTE–CAN I ADD ESSENTIAL OILS?  It depends.  We do love some of the therapeutic effects of some essential oils, but we also are big believers that they should just be used for therapeutic effects, so if you don’t need them, we say, back off. We’ve got a lot more to say about this HERE. Would you like to see a video demonstration of any or all of these recipes????  Let us know and we’ll whip one or two together for you 🙂 xox Laurie & Tiffany
