Life as a Makeup Artist – From Vegas to Portland
Wow, what a week!
I was frantically looking for an apt. in Portland, but the bottom line is I really needed to be in Portland myself to get it all figured out. But instead, I was busy filming in Nevada.
Yeah, and Nevada was quite a ride too. We traveled all day Tuesday and arrived that evening. The cast & crew went out to an all you can eat sushi bar…ahhhhhh amazing =)
After that one of the actresses and I went into the attached mall and were SO excited about the prospect of shopping, but had both left our wallets at the hotel. ummmm, big bummer to be so close to amazing shopping, but not able to actually indulge. Is that a problem? Maybe I need to enroll in shoppers annonymous! LOL!
Anyway, I still had a couple of actors to see so I waited up late for their arrivals so we could make sure they were all set for our shoot. I was doing wardrobe on this shoot as well, so I had to make sure their wardrobe would work for the activity, background and work cohesively with what the other actors were wearing. I didn’t get to be til 12:30, and we had to be up and ready to go by 5am. Waking up was not my idea of fun!
We got loaded up and headed out to Red Rock Canyon. I’ve filmed in Vegas quite a few times and never knew Red Rock existed, so that was a cool surprise. It was really pretty. The crazy thing no one had anticipated was how windy and cold it was, yikes and brrrrrr! We did great in spite of that, but there were some pretty funny things that happened. We hiked a couple miles into where we did most of the filming, loaded down with all our gear. It was a great workout to say the least! But as we filmed, we were on the top of huge cliffs that made it pretty intimidating to look down. The wind bursts were so strong at times that it literally picked me up and threw me. The scariest was when I was on top of the cliffs with the actors, pinning down their shirts to keep them from flying around in the wind. I was standing by the edge, behind our lead man, pinning away. The camera crew were positiioned below us. Suddenly a huge burst of wind came up behind me and pushed me right into the actor. He was kindof surpirsed and I was just happy to be alive! But I couldn’t move as the wind kept pelting at us and I didn’t dare let go for fear of my life! So it was a little crazy, but had to be a hilarious sight!
It was funny, after that, someone mentione that they’d heard of a little dog that was picked up in a windstorm and literally landed 1 mile away, unharmed. Just the visual of that makes me laugh!! “There goes todo!” Guess he’s not in Kansas anymore =) funny!!
Right now I’m in Portland looking for an apartment. Everything has gone wrong so far, but I’m still alive and it’s so amazingly beautiful. I know it will all work out, I just am running out of time fast.
After returning from Nevada, I went straight home and threw everything in the car, said sad goodbyes to my baby girl, Tiffany and her little sweetie and my hubby. sniff sniff.
Then I pulled away, not really sure what lie ahead.
I drove til 1:30am and found a hotel. Got right to bed and woke up early for a good start. My good start took a twist when I plugged in my laptop and it was dead as could be. I was worried cuz it had been in my bag with a banana that leaked onto it. The thought that my Apple was destroyed by a banana was a little humorous, but at the same time, not so funny =(
So I packed up and headed on to Portland. I had 2 GPS’s and still had some troubles getting lost here and there. But I got to some of the apartents, and really didn’t find any good options. As I drove toward the SE area to an appointment, a black cat ran right across the road in front of me! I was like, “noooooooooo!” But then I thought maybe that cancels out bad luck if your day already has been full of it! =)
A funny thing tho, as I was leaving that apartment, my car alarm got stuck on and my car wouldn’t stop honking, with me in it. So I tried to drive, hoping it would stop, but no! It seemed like it only got louder! And the funny thing was that there was a mom with a little girl in the yard right by my car, 2 guys talking on the corner (probably a drug deal! haha, just kidding!) and the landlord. So I waved at them awkwardly, shrugging my shoulders and pulled out of the neighborhood. I felt like I was in a parade. They probably never have that many people outside at one time until I came to make my grand exit! Anyway, I finally got the car to stop honking, and went on my way.
I found an Apple store and they’re fixing my computer, but not for about a week. ugh. lucky for a business center at the hotel! My phone charger was buried in my bags, so I couldn’t charge it last night, so right now I’m writing this and charging my battery at the same time. And now I’m off to see what kind of adventures lie ahead for me today. Knock on wood!
